Stew's top 20: No. 19 - Chaz Spicer

One of so many epic celebration shots caught by TrueAggies.com that season
If any Aggie basketball fan ever asks you to describe Chaz Spicer in one word, and you say anything other than "clutch," you're doing it wrong!

On the surface, Spicer was an undersized power forward with decent offensive skills from mid-range and beyond. His career numbers are a far cry from the totals that most other players on this list have put up, but none of those other guys can even touch the late-game mystique of Chaz "The Icer" Spicer.

Back in the 2006-07 season, the team had lost a few great players from the previous year to go along with being incredibly undersized. But what they lacked in size and athleticism, they made up for with heart and grit. But what really made the season so memorable were the late-game heroics of Spicer. If the game was on the line, and Spicer had the ball, he was automatic that year. And not just once or twice... FOUR TIMES!!!

Game tied against Utah: Spicer hits the 3-pointer to win it.
Down two in the midst of an epic comeback against Boise State: Spicer makes a lay-up and one to win it.
Game tied against No. 9 ranked Nevada: Draws the foul and hits winning free throws.
Game tied a week later against No. 10 ranked Nevada: Draws the foul and hits winning free throws... again.

With the team either tied or trailing, Spicer put in the winning points in the final 10 seconds of a game in every chance he got. To my knowledge, no other Stew player has done that more than once in their career, let along a single season. His highlight videos are this writer's single biggest cause of personal regret for choosing a stupid username on YouTube, but still are a thrill to relive each time around.

And even outside of the clutch factor, he was a pretty solid player. What really makes his inclusion a no-brainer is the fact that no other Aggie was ever this clutch.
