Sharing is caring... or winning, or whatever. Ag's win.

Do you see what happens Larry when you hit a teammate with a pass!?!?
17 assists!!! That'll be good for 77 points, and 77 points would have been good enough to win each of the last three games. The team had more assists tonight than the previous two games combined, which they sure as hell needed tonight, what with them getting outrebounded by 20... TWENTY!!!! (had to spell it out since you can't put numbers into all caps).

If this game had turned out to be a loss, I would be absolutely furious. Instead I'm just kind of passively furious, and really just happy to have come out with a win.

Really, as bad as the rebounding was, the defense made up for it, especially in the backcourt. Hawaii's starters in the backcourt shot a combined 5-for-22... This is the same backcourt that has Zane Johnson in it. The same Zane Johnson who averaged 24.5 points per game against USU last year. The same Zane Johnson who shot a combined 10-13 from the 3-point line against the Aggies last year.

Thursday, Johnson shot 4-of-16 from the field, 1-of-9 from deep, missed both his free throws, had two turnovers and fouled out. Thanks for playing. Can't help but think that somewhere, Preston Medlin simply giggled to himself and said, "haha... bitch." On top of shutting down Johnson, Medlin went off for 25 points (Spoiler alert! Pre-Med is gonna be Player of the Game).

Somehow Johnson carved up Pooh Williams and Tyler Newbold last year, both who were defensive wizards, yet Medlin shuts him down. Now Medlin is pretty solid defensively, really solid even, but both Williams and Newbold were WAC All-Defensive team guys. Can't help but wonder if that kind of thing is in Pre-Med's future too. Dude was just an absolute STUD tonight.

Seeing Hawaii's bigs both get double-doubles is discouraging, but I dare say they're the best big man duo in the WAC, maybe even by a long ways.

At the end of the day, Hawaii had a definite advantage in height and athleticism, killed USU on the rebounds, didn't shoot overly horrible from the field, limited turnovers to only 10 and STILL went home with an "L". Since it's the point I've been driving home all along, I'm going to attribute this to the assist total. The Aggies dish the ball out, and they get a win.

ON A SIDE NOTE

After getting back from the last road trip, Stew Morrill cancelled Monday's practice. Word also is that he didn't take the same flight home with the team after the Idaho loss. To me, that seems like Stew saying, "I can't fix you guys right now, you've got to figure your s*** out and fix it yourselves!"

That's not a direct quote, just a hypothetical of the message he had to have been trying to send with all that. Food for thought. Do with that what you will.

GAME NOTES

  • What's up Danny Berger!!! Best game in a while for you bro! The 0-3 free throws are less than cool, but two steals and being a part of that defense on Hawaii's wings brings a smile to my face.
  • Mitch and Adam, we need to talk about this whole, "making Danny and Preston play 36 minutes each" thing.
  • Something is not right with Morgan Grim. We know he's been battling some kind of injury lately, and it seemed to be hampering him tonight. All things considered, solid solid showing by Jordan Stone filling in for him with the most minutes Jordan has seen in a while.
  • Ben Clifford stays out of foul trouble and look what happens! 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, three rebounds and FOUR blocks. Freaking stud.
  • At one point tonight, Brockeith Pane drove into the lane, noticed the defense collapse on him, kicked out to Medlin on the wing, who then nailed a 3-pointer. Really would like to see that become a thing, because not long after that, Pane tried to shoot over four defenders with Medlin left wide open. Still, anytime Pane scores in double-figures, leads the team in rebounds and ties for the team lead in assists, I'll be stoked. He was really good tonight.

Player of the Game: Preston Medlin
