Mid-Monday musings: 11/12

Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays...
Since this week is going to explode with storylines in the next few days between the basketball game against Saint Mary's, the WAC Super Bowl at Louisiana Tech on Saturday, all wrapped up with another basketball game Saturday night, let's keep things brief for today.

MORE VOTES IN THE FOOTBALL POLLS
This week Utah State jumped up to 20 votes in the coaches poll and stood at four votes in the AP poll. With La Tech squeaking out its win on Saturday to stay ranked, a win on the road for Utah State, over a ranked team should just about ensure the Aggies' inclusion in next week's top 25 polls. Not a slam dunk, but very likely. All that's left is to take care of business.

LA TECH'S LAST THREE WEEKS
Nobody in their right mind was impressed with La Tech's win over Texas State. Against a team that USU had destroyed by halftime, the Bulldogs let this one go just about down to the wire. And it's not the first time Tech has struggled with a team USU blew out the previous week. In fact it's the third week in a row.

At this point, USU and La Tech's last three games have been against the same three teams. Over that span, USU has outgained those teams by a combined margin of 853 yards. La Tech only holds an edge of 274 yards. And what's even more head-scratching is that because of the games being mostly close, La Tech's starters have been able to stay in and rack up offensive yards. In USU's case, the second unit has played an average of at least a whole quarter in each of these games.

Like I said before, USU still has to take care of business, but this game is looking a whole lot less threatening than a few weeks ago.

SAINT MARY'S...
As badly as USU struggled against Idaho State, things can all turn around when the pressure is on against a tough team like the Gaels. That's often times the mark of a great team when they can step up and perform under pressure. The experience Saint Mary's has will play into their favor a lot, but so often The Spectrum is the great equalizer (and dammit it had better be again on Thursday).

LINK-O-RAMA
Let's jump around a bit now and link up to some of the other stuff going on with USU...
Lastly, watch this, get stoked, and come to The Spectrum to watch the game on Saturday...

  1. Does anyone know if the La Tech game is being picked up by Altitude or any other cable station? I'm suck down here in Salt Lake with Century Link (which ESPN 3 does not support) and need to see the game!

  2. @Anonymous -- Century Link does not provide any TV service. They resell DirectTV. The programming offered has nothing to do with Century Link.

@Matt -- A win over LA Tech should ensure a ranking, not insure. Insure is what the Gecko does.

    1. Actually, it has everything to do with Century Link because ESPN 3 is not a TV channel. It's a website. A website that only supports certain ISPs in order to stream games. Century Link is not one of those ISPs. Thanks for the "help" though.
