A check in with Utah Pump-N-Run and USU recruiting

The ties between Utah Pump-N-Run and Utah State University seem to be running deeper and deeper every year. Notable names of guys who have suited up for UPNR at some point include Brian Green, Jaxon Myaer, Jordan Stone, Ben Clifford, David Collette, Quincy Bair and Marcel Davis. This past weekend UPNR was in action in a big way, and one guy of note on the current roster is USU class of 2013 commit, Jalen Moore. While Moore's name came up numerous times in brief recaps of the tournament, one bit in particular stood out...

"Jalen Moore might be one of the most talented players to play on UPNR squad in the last ten years. This kid can do it all. The USU commit would have schools knocking his door down to get at him if not already committed to the Aggies. Good job on spotting talent early and offering this kid by USU coaches! USU is building a tall and talented team for the future with a host of UPNR players past and present!"

Pretty much says it all...


BUT WE'RE NOT DONE YET!

News also surfaced Monday that Utah State extended offers to two more Pump-N-Run players. Orem High School's Dalton Nixon and Bonneville High School's Jared Stutzman reportedly are each holding scholarship offers to play for the Aggies, both of whom will graduate high school in 2014.  

Not a whole lot is currently known about either guy, but this is the best I can gather...

Nixon sounds like a guy who is a bit of a tweener between the small and power forward positions, but according to a Deseret News article, possesses the skills to play both inside and out. That's got "next Gary Wilkinson" written all over him (which is saying a whole lot because Wilkinson is probably in my top three favorite USU players ever).


For Stutzman, he was described on the UPNR Facebook page as a "drop dead shooter with unlimited range." Based on that, he's been on USU's radar for a while already, but with improved defensive performance, Stew apparently sees the complete package now in Stutzman. With those factors, it sounds like he would have "next Preston Medlin" written all over him. Pretty convenient that he's a class of 2014 guy with Medlin set to graduate that year.


For both of them, this should be a big deal. It's not often that Stew offers guys after their sophomore year's of high school. The last two only went on to each earn first-team all-state honors in both their junior and senior seasons. Oh, and they were UPNR guys too (Davis and Bair).
