A-train keeps rolling at San Jose State

Hey look! A picture of a train!
This one was never even close...

For the past few games now, USU is playing pure Stew Ball. The Aggies are shooting great from the field, keeping opponents' field goal percentages down, and even cutting down on turnovers quite a bit from where they've been for the bulk of this year.

The end result? A team who many would criticize as being undersized and athletically inferior going out and dominating teams that might look better on paper. Stew Ball at it's finest.

If you're not falling madly in love with this team right now, I'm not sure you'll ever be satisfied

63-36, final.

Up next is the biggest weekend of games of the year, with the roadie to BYU coming up after that. Let's just go ahead and call these next three games "The Reckoning".

NOTES
  • It took a few games of pushing, but it looks like Marcel Davis has officially broken through that freshman wall. Everything he's doing right now has the makings of "superstar" written all over it.
  • I'm thinking at this point, we know what we're getting out of Marvin Jean. Great defense and great 3-point shooting. And that's not a bad thing at all. Most teams would kill for a guy who can keep a defense honest like him while keeping opposing offenses in check.
  • Jarred Shaw seemed to have a little bit of mercy against the Spartans, but still put together a nice little game with 12 points and five rebounds. He'll be as crucial as anyone to the team's success during The Reckoning, so let's hope he was just getting a bit of rest before then.
  • San Jose State's starting three-guard crew shot a combined 5-23. Two of those three went 0-fer. All in all, the SJSU starters only made 10 field goals. Defense baby!

Player of the Game: Spencer Butterfield

Spencer Butterfield was well on his way to becoming a lot of people's favorite player from the first time he stepped on the court. All he's done since then is add more to love about his game. He had a double-double with 10 minutes left to go in this one, and probably could have easily scored more than 30 points. If the night is always darkest before the dawn, and the injuries to Medlin and Reed were the darkest hour, Butterfield looks like the rising sun of Aggie basketball right now!
