Team. That's all that needs to be said. |
But then things changed. Things changed so drastically, so unimaginably and so passionately that the landscape of USU football's season now will have a completely different outlook when the world wakes up on Nov. 6.
Adam Freaking Kennedy (AFK), the junior quarterback who was recruited to be the front runner to start this season, finally got his shot. And while that shot came through what initially appears to be something tragic, AFK took control of the offense to spark a comeback for the ages. And as impressive as the offense was in the second half, maybe even more impressive was the USU defense. My guess is that Gary Andersen gave them a halftime pep talk something like this to light their fire.
In the second half, every criticism of the offensive play calling, every criticism of the defensive line, every knock on the USU secondary all when out the window and were replaced by a team with a purpose, replaced by a team that knew what it was capable of and replaced by a team that would let nothing stand in their way.
This team faced tragedy straight in the face when Chuckie Keeton went down in the second quarter. They watched a teammate, friend and leader lay helpless on the field for several minutes before getting carted off with a trainer squeezing his hands to see if he had feeling in them. That is not good.
But they rallied. Everybody stepped up. Everybody made plays. And to add to it, reports are coming now that Keeton has movement in all extremities. We can only hope that more good news comes from that situation.
This win is amazing. The next step is to make it really count by finishing the road to a bowl game.
Great game. Great blog. Loved it. Go Aggies
