Another Saturday, another Aggie blowout

Roadrunner shouldn't be smiling
In the last three games, USU has won by margins of 22, 34 and 31, with the most recent coming Saturday on the road at UTSA.

And once again, this one was never really in doubt. Utah State kicked off to the Roadrunners, forced them to a three-and-out, blocked their punt, and scored two plays later.

The tone was set at that point, and another blowout was on.

The Roadrunners gave themselves a glimmer of hope after a great interception of a Chuckie Keeton pass deep over the middle, which resulted in a field goal drive and only the second time USU has given up 1st quarter points this year.

Utah State's defense locked down after that though, holding UTSA to three-and-outs on each of its next two possessions, and giving up pretty much nothing throughout the rest of the first half. In the meantime, USU's offense put points on the board in each of its next SIX drives to take the game from a score of 7-3 to 41-3.

Game over at that point.

UTSA was able to take advantage of a fumble deep in USU territory by Kelvin Lee to get another touchdown, but even the second and third units for Utah State managed to keep things under control. Great to see another chance for the young guys to get in there and see things at game speed for a second week in a row. That's undoubtedly going to pay off down the road for them.

Not much else to say about a blowout like this, but it's still almost weird to fathom the idea that Utah State is 7-2 on the season, 3-0 in the WAC and blowing out everybody else in the conference. It really is amazing what's going on here.

Romney Stadium had better be PACKED next Saturday.

NOTES
  • It's mind blowing to look at Kerwynn Williams' final stats and feel like he had an off game with only 158 total yards. In some ways though, that's the standard he's set from how good he's been this year. Still a great game, especially since he got those 158 yards on only 16 touches, with two touchdowns mixed in there.
  • GREAT game by Cam Webb both in receiving the ball (five catches, 59 yards and a touchdown) and in punt returns.
  • Really good to see both Kellen Bartlett and Jojo Natson getting in on the passing game today. Nine catches between the two of them.
  • No surprises on who led in tackles again. Jake Doughty, Kyler Fackrell and Zach Vigil combined for 20 stops Saturday. Fackrell had a TFL and another interception to go along with it.
  • Speaking of interceptions, Will Davis got his second pick of the year. Second game in a row with a pick too. This trend pleases me.
  • On the whole, the defense seemed to not have the sense of urgency much like they lacked against New Mexico State last week. To be fair, they can get away with it, so as long as they still know how to step it up when it matters (which they've shown to do), I see no problem with it.
  • Didn't think this guy would be getting any mention at all this year, but solid work out there by Craig Harrison! Completed 5-of-6 passes for 54 yards.

Player of the Game: Chuckie Keeton

Keeton gets the nod as Player of the Game for the second week in a row after completing 27-of-36 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns. And all of that was in just three quarters of play!! Dude just keeps on getting better. And yes, he's still only a sophomore.
